First Grade Learns About Railroad Safety

Over 1,000 books on railroad safety were distributed to area first graders, including Glenwood first grade. Safe Kids Platte Valley provided these books to initiate conversations with kids about railroad safety, since there are so many towns along the tracks. Part of their mission is to prevent childhood injuries and in partnership with Union Pacific, they had these books printed to spread awareness. The hope is that students learn about the dangers and risks around railroad tracks, where to cross, and how long it takes for a train to stop.

Fuel Up To Play 60

Glenwood is once again participating in the Fuel Up To Play 60 program this year. Mrs. Swarm is the staff sponsor for this activity. We also had a very special visitor return to Glenwood to help "kick off" our Fuel Up to Play 60 initiative. Mr. Carnahan, former 4th grade teacher at Glenwood and former UNK football player, dazzled the crowd of students and staff with his amazing kicking skills. The FUTP60 team is taking a lead to encourage students at Glenwood to make healthy eating choices and play or exercise at least 60 minutes each day. The team also went around to each classroom to speak about the importance of nutrition and physical activity. Go Glenwood Gladiators!!!
